Assess critical illness and life insurance risks as a Senior Underwriter at Sun Life, working hybrid and from home. Make timely decisions using medical and financial analysis.
This senior individual underwriting role supports one of Canada's largest insurers. You will analyze applications, apply underwriting guidelines, and use signing authority for life insurance and critical illness insurance. Your work will also involve reinsurer negotiations, advisor inquiries, confidential information, and clear communication with internal partners and clients' physicians.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze medical, personal, and financial application information
Assess complex or adverse risks using professional judgment
Negotiate outcomes with reinsurers on referred decisions
Respond to advisors and managing general agents confidentially
Maintain current medical and underwriting knowledge
Requirements:
Three or more years as an individual life underwriter
Signing authority for life and critical illness insurance
Influencing, negotiation, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks
ALU certificate or commitment toward ALU, FALU, and FLMI
Use medical knowledge, analytical judgment, and influencing skills to deliver thoughtful critical illness and life insurance underwriting decisions.
