Architect AI-powered restaurant intelligence systems as a Senior Backend Engineer, using Node.js, TypeScript, distributed systems, and scalable data pipelines remotely from Canada.
This Senior / Staff Backend Engineer owns Grader’s architecture and technical direction. You will build customer-facing services, event-driven workflows, and data systems processing information from Google, Yelp, restaurant menus, and AI-generated signals. Your work supports real-time scoring and product capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Own Grader’s backend architecture and technical direction
Build scalable pipelines for third-party restaurant information
Operate reliable services powering real-time restaurant scoring
Lead monolith decomposition and microservices transitions
Improve observability, monitoring, alerting, and incident management
Requirements:
Seven-plus years in backend, platform, or software development
Strong Node.js and TypeScript proficiency or equivalent
Experience scaling customer-facing production systems
Knowledge of distributed systems and asynchronous processing
Experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or similar databases
