Payments Platform Backend Engineer

Build reliable payment platforms at Xero in Vancouver, using backend engineering and distributed systems expertise in a hybrid work model.
As an Engineer on Payments Platform Engineering, you will develop reusable capabilities for money movement across Xero products. Your work spans payment orchestration, provider integrations, transactional data, reconciliation, and internal ledgers. You will help shape architecture while supporting secure, scalable services.
Key Responsibilities:

Build reusable payment capabilities across products, providers, and regions
Develop payment orchestration and provider integrations
Strengthen reconciliation, disputes, and internal ledger capabilities
Support reliable, secure, observable money movement
Apply AI and automation with appropriate controls
Requirements:

Strong backend software engineering experience
Experience building and operating reliable production services
Understanding of distributed systems and service boundaries
Experience with transactional data and financial correctness
Clear communication across engineering, product, and operations
Bring backend engineering, distributed systems, and transactional data expertise to Xero’s Vancouver Payments Platform Engineering team.
