The Senior Production Designer is responsible for applying and continuously improving CIHI’s visual design standards and production processes to deliver high-quality, on-brand, and accessible information products, including reports, charts, tables, and presentations produced across multiple platforms. This role ensures the accurate, consistent, and professional execution of content within established templates, tools, and organizational standards. With a strong production focus, the Senior Production Designer specializes in technical document formatting, quality assurance, accessibility compliance, and production reliability.
This role works in close collaboration with Creative Designers to support the development of new products and tools that meet the evolving information needs of internal clients. This is a production-focused role, versus a creative, concept-driven design role.
What you’ll do
1. Prepare high-quality, advanced information products for all platforms following CIHI’s visual design standards and processes.
2. Ensure that formatting, tables, styles, and accessibility requirements are applied correctly and consistently in accordance with established layout standards.
3. Collaborate with the Creative Designer to create, improve, and maintain templates, formats, and production processes for information products including documents, tables, presentations, charts and data visualizations.
4. Attend project meetings, represent Visual Design in project discussions, and communicate relevant project milestones, timelines and updates to project partners and the Visual Design Coordinator.
5. Consult with clients to understand complex production and layout needs, independently assess options, and recommend practical solutions within established templates, standards and processes.
6. Research, develop, and maintain accessibility standards and techniques for documents, digital products, and data visualizations.
7. Review quality of formatting work by external agencies and provide clear and succinct feedback.
8. Support continuing quality improvement projects for the desktop publishing team and help resolve production issues to ensure effective operations and maintenance.
9. Support the Team Lead on software and hardware needed for completing tasks efficiently and creatively, and monitor advances in best practices and software in the production design field.
10. Provide technical advice, assistance and support to program areas and colleagues on optimum methods of production.

Primary locations: Toronto or Ottawa.
Must comply with all CIHI workplace policies, including privacy and confidentiality.
