As a Senior Staff Software Engineer on the Compute Platform team, you will define technical vision for affirm’s Amazon EKS foundation. You will guide fleet automation, workload safety, and platform standards across 90+ production clusters. The work spans Terraform, Spacelift, ArgoCD, custom Kubernetes controllers, Karpenter, and OPA/Gatekeeper.
Key Responsibilities:

Architect EKS fleet lifecycle, node provisioning, and shared components
Automate provisioning, upgrades, teardown, and GitOps delivery pipelines
Own Karpenter, CoreDNS, VPC CNI, Kube-Proxy, and Metrics Server
Enforce workload safety standards and admission policies
Build Kubernetes controllers, operators, and developer platform tooling
Requirements:

10+ years professional software or infrastructure engineering experience
6+ years operating production Kubernetes clusters at scale
Deep AWS EKS, EC2, VPC, IAM, and Kubernetes expertise
Expert Go or Python controller and operator development
Advanced Terraform, Spacelift, and GitOps deployment experience
Lead affirm’s Kubernetes platform strategy through AWS architecture, automation, workload reliability, policy enforcement, and technical mentorship.
