Job opportunity
Senior Software Engineer
ZeroStone AI Inc.
Build the systems behind our AI applications. Own architecture, write production code, and help shape how our team delivers.
Location Remote (Canada preferred)
Experience 8+ years software engineering with significant systems design experience
ZeroStone helps mid-market enterprises put AI and automation to work across strategy, technology, and operations. We design and build agentic applications, intelligent workflows, and reusable platforms that improve how our clients operate.
We use AI tools in our own engineering and delivery work every day. Engineers here help shape both the software we build and the way we build it.
The role
This is a senior individual contributor role with significant technical influence. You will design, build, and ship software across the stack (backend services, web front ends, and mobile apps) for our internal platforms and client applications, taking work from architecture through production.
About 90–95% of your time will be hands‑on development and systems work. You may occasionally join client discovery or architecture discussions, but your primary focus is building. You will make technical decisions, mentor colleagues, and create reusable infrastructure that helps the whole team deliver.
What you'll do
Design resilient systems and user-facing applications. Make practical decisions about APIs, data models, service boundaries, integrations, and build-versus-buy tradeoffs.
Build backend services, enterprise integrations, and data layers using the languages and frameworks that fit each client’s stack, alongside SQL and NoSQL databases and event‑driven patterns.
Build web and mobile interfaces that are fast, accessible, and dependable, using frameworks such as React, React Native, Swift, or Kotlin, and connect them cleanly to the services behind them.
Build and operate cloud infrastructure with infrastructure as code, containers, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines that support safe, frequent releases.
Make systems observable and secure: implement monitoring, alerting, authentication, authorization, and secrets management, and investigate failures in production.
Practice agentic engineering. Put your effort into design, architecture, and clear requirements, then direct AI coding agents to build against them. Back every change with automated validation and testing pipelines, and take responsibility for what ships.
Improve shared engineering practices through code reviews, mentoring, reference architectures, technical documentation, architecture decision records, and runbooks.
What you bring
8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant systems design experience and a track record of delivering production software end to end.
Strong hands‑on proficiency in at least one programming language, such as TypeScript, Go, Python, C#, Swift, or Kotlin, with experience building and shipping production software. We are a polyglot team: you must be able to learn and adapt to the languages, frameworks, and existing systems our clients use.
Deep expertise in at least one of backend, web frontend, or mobile development, and the ability to contribute across the others.
Hands‑on cloud experience with Azure, AWS, or GCP, including Docker and Kubernetes.
Experience with SQL and NoSQL data stores, caching, and message queues.
Experience with infrastructure as code, CI/CD, monitoring, logging, and observability. Relevant tools include Terraform, Bicep, GitHub Actions, and Azure DevOps.
Hands‑on experience with agentic engineering: writing specs and requirements that agents can build from, directing current AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor, and building the tests, evals, and CI checks that validate their work.
An understanding of security and identity systems, including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, SSO, secrets management, and zero‑trust principles.
Especially useful experience
Solutions architecture or a similar role involving substantial systems design.
LLM APIs, vector databases, retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG), or agent orchestration.
Developer platforms, internal tooling, and reusable infrastructure.
Workflow orchestration with tools such as Temporal, Airflow, or Durable Functions.
Microservices and event‑driven architectures, including service mesh patterns and the tradeoffs they introduce.
Data pipelines and streaming systems.
Networking, load balancing, and CDN architectures.
Mobile app delivery: App Store and Play Store release, offline support, and push notifications.
Design systems, component libraries, or frontend performance work.
Working with compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, HIPAA, or ISO 27001.
How we work
We think through data flows, failure modes, and scaling constraints, then choose an approach that fits the problem. We balance maintainability with delivery, ship useful increments, and improve from what we learn.
We practice agentic engineering. Engineers spend most of their effort on design, architecture, and requirements. AI agents do much of the implementation, and automated validation and testing pipelines check every change before it ships. We use the most capable tools available and keep evaluating new ones.
We own systems end to end, communicate technical decisions clearly, and help each other grow through mentoring and thoughtful reviews. Engineering judgment, testing, and accountability remain essential.
Why join ZeroStone
Remote flexibility: work remotely with the freedom to structure your hours and schedule. Canada is preferred.
Creative autonomy: help shape our engineering practice, explore tools and approaches, and influence technical decisions.
Meaningful collaboration: work with a senior team that values your ideas and technical judgment.
Work across platform engineering and agentic AI: build reusable foundations alongside applications that clients use.
Visible impact: see how the systems you build change the way mid‑market enterprises operate.
