Senior Billing Software Engineer
Tailscale
Build billing software at Tailscale as a Software Engineer focused on pricing, payments, and distributed systems in a fully remote company.
You will design, build, test, and document core billing components across usage-based and subscription models. The role includes third-party integrations, product lifecycle ownership, and collaboration with product, finance, sales, support, and engineering teams. Tailscale values asynchronous communication, technical collaboration, and motivated contributors.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, build, test, and document billing software components
Integrate Stripe, Metronome, and other billing platforms
Develop metering, pricing, rating, and reconciliation automation
Monitor billing systems, usage data, alerts, and error handling
Lead incident response and billing root cause analysis
Requirements:
Backend engineering experience in billing, payments, or financial systems
Knowledge of subscriptions, usage pricing, proration, discounts, and entitlements
Experience with distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures
Proficiency with SQL, data modeling, APIs, and billing integrations
Strong Go proficiency or willingness to work with Go
