Recreation Support Worker Corrections
Bonaventure Support Services
Lead recreation and wellness programming at Nanaimo Correctional Centre while supporting women’s community reintegration and resource access. This temporary full-time role is onsite in Nanaimo, BC.
Bonaventure Support Services seeks a Recreation and Community Release Support Worker for women inmates in a newly redeveloped unit. You will deliver therapeutic activities, develop fitness plans, support healthy living, and help short-term inmates prepare for release. The work combines recreation leadership, trauma-informed practice, and community-resource navigation.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead recreational and therapeutic activities tailored to individual needs
Coordinate workshops, wellness events, and fitness assessments
Educate inmates about nutrition, exercise, and stress management
Track progress and maintain service records
Collaborate with correctional staff and community agencies
Requirements:
Experience in recreation therapy, community support, or related fields
Strong communication, planning, and organizational skills
Understanding of trauma-informed practice and social determinants
Ability to maintain professional boundaries with diverse populations
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and required facility training
