Director of Generative AI Applications

Build production generative AI applications at CIBC, leading engineers and developers with hands-on experience in LLMs, RAG, and agentic frameworks.
As Director, you will combine coding depth with leadership across AI engineering, development, and quality assurance. You will guide solutions using Python, FastAPI, JavaScript frameworks, Azure services, retrieval-augmented generation, tool calling, and large language models. The function supports secure, scalable applications that improve client experience and meet enterprise requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead teams building and supporting advanced AI applications
Review engineering decisions, pull requests, and production issues
Guide LLM, RAG, and agentic application development
Coach leaders and create opportunities for team growth
Improve engineering practices, documentation, and solution quality
Requirements:
Recent experience building and shipping production AI applications
Hands-on Python, FastAPI, JavaScript, and Azure Cloud skills
Experience with LLMs, RAG, tool calling, and context engineering
Knowledge of LangGraph, LangChain, LangSmith, or equivalent
Ability to mentor engineers and influence non-technical stakeholders
Lead hands-on generative AI engineering at CIBC while developing people, production systems, and scalable enterprise capabilities.
