Staff Distributed Systems Software Engineer

Lead distributed systems architecture and backend engineering as a Staff Software Engineer II at KeyCite, shaping business-critical platforms across teams.
This senior engineering role covers end-to-end delivery for large-scale production systems. You will modernize established platforms, design APIs and event-driven services, and build data-processing capabilities for legal content and metadata. The position also guides technical direction and architecture.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead complex engineering initiatives from architecture through production
Design scalable distributed services, processing systems, and APIs
Modernize KeyCite platforms without disrupting customer-facing products
Establish standards for reliability, security, and maintainability
Mentor engineers and lead technical design reviews
Requirements:
Six or more years delivering complex production software systems
Deep backend and distributed systems engineering expertise
Cloud-native architecture experience, preferably with AWS
Experience designing APIs and event-driven architectures
Strong programming skills, ideally Java or Python
