Principal Applied AI Engineer

Shape Wagepoint’s AI platform remotely with distributed systems and agentic AI expertise. Set technical direction for payroll products across Canada.
As Principal Software Development Engineer, Applied AI, you will define strategy for customer-facing AI products and their platform. You will author architecture decision records, establish platform boundaries, and guide teams building AI features. The role reports to the VP, Engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
Define organization-wide AI architecture through cited decision records
Own AI service boundaries and shared service-kit libraries
Set evaluation, observability, persistence, and release standards
Establish agentic workflow, isolation, governance, and audit guardrails
Lead distributed-system design and mentor senior engineers
Requirements:
10+ years of professional software engineering experience
Multiple years operating production LLM or agentic systems
Distributed systems, microservices, DDD, and Clean Architecture expertise
Full-stack breadth with modern front ends and Python back ends
Experience setting standards, making vendor decisions, and communicating tradeoffs
Lead Wagepoint’s AI strategy through architecture, agentic development, governance, and high-performance distributed systems.
