Student Support Educational Assistant

Help children and youth reach learning goals as an Educational Assistant Intern with Edmonton Public Schools, emphasizing trust and clear communication. This paid placement runs weekdays, 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The Educational Assistant Internship prepares participants to support inclusive learning communities across Edmonton schools. You will work with students who have exceptionalities including autism, behavioural challenges, mental health issues, learning difficulties, and physical health concerns. Training includes online modules, in-person instruction, Community of Practice sessions, professional development, and supervised application with Teacher/EA teams. The program runs February 1 through May 31, 2027, with guidance from an EA Coach. Completion leads to eligibility for Supply Services assignments and future applications to permanent Educational Assistant positions.
Key Responsibilities:
Establish effective relationships and build trust with students
Support inclusive learning communities and student participation
Attend Community of Practice sessions with EA Coaches
Apply learned skills under supervision in schools
Participate in professional development and intern collaboration
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience working with children and adolescents
Educational environment volunteer experience
Ability to scribe rapidly and rephrase complex concepts
Ability to stand, walk, run, lift, transfer, bend, and crouch
Bring strong communication, trust-building, and inclusive student support skills to the Educational Assistant Internship in Edmonton.
