Ferry Third Officer Watchkeeping

Use bridge management and watchkeeping skills as a Third Officer aboard Marine Atlantic vessels serving Port aux Basques and North Sydney. Positions are permanent spare and relief assignments.
Reporting directly to the Chief Officer, the Third Officer supervises operational activities across the fleet. Responsibilities include maintaining bridge security underway, supporting the Vessel Emergency Plan, and participating in drills. Assignments follow operational requirements throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain bridge security while vessels are underway
Understand and support Bridge Team Management practices
Maintain the Vessel Emergency Plan and Muster Lists
Train employees and participate in preparedness exercises
Supervise mooring and loading operations as assigned
Requirements:
Possess Watchkeeping Mate or Near Coastal certification
Complete STCW 95 sections 6.1, 6.2, and 6.3
Hold current FRC and refresher certification
Hold Bridge Resource Management and refresher certification
Have Security Awareness and Dangerous Goods Awareness
Bring bridge security, emergency planning, and watchkeeping capability to Marine Atlantic’s ferry operations as Third Officer.
