Job opportunity
Pion Lifetime Experiment Assistant
TRIUMF Innovations Inc.
Advance pion lifetime research onsite at TRIUMF in Vancouver by developing simulations and supporting detector research. Collaborate with beam line experts.
This undergraduate student position contributes to designing a dedicated experiment targeting 0.01% relative uncertainty. You will develop M20 beam line and detector simulation packages using Geant4 and G4beamline. The work builds understanding of pion decay physics and experimental methods while supporting design decisions. Hands-on R&D involving SiPM-based detectors and silicon strip sensors is available for interested students. You will document daily work, present progress, and explain research to non-specialists.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop dedicated pion lifetime experiment simulations
Build, run, and debug Geant4 simulations
Continue developing M20 beam line packages
Collaborate with TRIUMF beam line experts
Support detector R&D and design decisions
Requirements:
Undergraduate student status meeting eligibility requirements
Ability to work safely with laboratory equipment
Ability to troubleshoot experimental setups
Ability to work independently and ask for help
Ability to document and present research progress
Develop simulation, detector, and communication skills while contributing to TRIUMF’s pion lifetime experiment in Vancouver.
