Help clients access legal aid through Legal Aid BC by combining trauma-informed intake, cultural competency, and clear communication. This position is based in Vancouver.
As an Intake Legal Assistant, you will provide front-line services to people seeking legal assistance. You will identify legal issues and urgency, gather application information, determine eligibility, and communicate decisions. The position also connects clients with Legal Aid BC, community resources, private bar lawyers, and duty counsel.
Key Responsibilities:

Use active listening and de-escalation techniques
Apply trauma-informed and person-centered intake practices
Redirect clients to LABC or community resources
Appoint duty counsel in local courts
Facilitate lawyer searches and warm handoffs
Requirements:

Knowledge of court and tribunal procedures
Knowledge of community resources and social service agencies
Cultural competency grounded in Truth and Reconciliation
Ability to interpret policies and guidelines
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Use client-centered intake, cultural awareness, and legal aid knowledge to assist people experiencing serious legal distress.
