Medical Laboratory Assistant Courtenay

Support laboratory services across Courtenay and Cumberland as a Medical Laboratory Assistant performing specimen collection and ECG testing. Regular part-time work includes multiple sites.
Island Health seeks a Medical Laboratory Assistant for Laboratory Medicine, Pathology and Medical Genetics. Reporting to a Team Leader, Chief Technologist, or designate, you will perform laboratory procedures and clerical duties. The work supports consistently high quality laboratory services across assigned facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Collect blood and other patient specimens
Prepare samples for laboratory analysis
Distribute and store specimens appropriately
Perform urinalysis using colour-coded dipsticks
Perform Electro Cardiogram testing where required
Requirements:
Grade 12 education
Recognized Laboratory Assistant training program completion
One year of recent related experience or equivalent
Valid BC Class 5 Vehicle Licence
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Bring specimen collection, laboratory procedure, and patient communication skills to Island Health’s multi-site laboratory services in Courtenay and Cumberland.
